New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration on food safety.
The agreement was formalised at FSSAI headquarters in New Delhi, underscoring the two nations’ shared commitment to strengthening food standards.
The MoU was signed by FSSAI CEO Rajit Punhani and Tom Black, First Assistant Secretary at DAFF. It lays the groundwork for closer cooperation through the exchange of best practices, knowledge sharing, improved import procedures and joint technical initiatives, including capacity-building programmes for food safety professionals.
Officials from both countries said the pact marks a significant step in their enduring partnership. They expressed confidence that the agreement will foster stronger institutional ties and help raise food safety benchmarks, benefiting consumers and businesses in India and Australia alike.
The collaboration is expected to streamline regulatory processes, support innovation in food safety management, and align with global standards, reinforcing the growing trade and agricultural relationship between the two nations.
