Visakhapatnam, Apr 22 (APAC Media): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for a Rs. 5,400-crore solar manufacturing facility near Visakhapatnam to strengthen India’s clean energy ecosystem.
The project, led by ReNew, involves setting up a 6 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing unit in the Anakapalli district. It is part of the state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, which aims to attract large-scale investments and build a robust renewable energy infrastructure.
The facility will focus on producing key upstream components such as solar ingots and wafers. This is expected to reduce India’s dependence on imports and improve energy security by strengthening the domestic solar supply chain.
The project is also part of ReNew’s larger Rs. 82,000-crore investment commitment in Andhra Pradesh, reflecting strong confidence in the state’s industrial policies and governance. Officials said the plant will be commissioned within 24 months.
Once operational, the unit is expected to generate more than 2,100 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to employment and industrial growth in the region. The state government believes the project will also support backward integration in solar manufacturing.
Senior leadership from ReNew, including Founder and CEO Sumant Sinha, will attend the foundation ceremony along with government officials and industry stakeholders.
The initiative comes at a crucial time as India works toward its target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, aligning with the broader vision of self-reliance and clean energy expansion.
