Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and Vietnam National University (VNU) have formalized a partnership to strengthen cooperation in science and engineering research. The agreement, signed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), sets the stage for joint projects, academic exchanges, and technology-driven collaborations.
The MoU was signed in the presence of IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Dean of International Relations Prof. Bushra Ateeq, and Head of the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering Prof. Ashish Garg. From VNU, the delegation included Vice Rector Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong, Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Tran Quoc Quan, a lecturer in the same faculty.
The collaboration builds on discussions initiated in July when Prof. Ashish Garg visited VNU to explore areas of common interest. The recent visit by the VNU delegation to IIT Kanpur included tours of advanced facilities such as the Helicopter and VTOL Laboratory, the Startup Innovation and Incubation Centre, and the Smart Grid Control Centre. These interactions helped both institutions identify specific fields where expertise and resources could be pooled.
As part of the MoU, both institutions will work on structured initiatives such as joint research in sustainable technologies, student and faculty exchanges, and cooperative development of new academic programs. The partnership highlights a growing trend of Indian higher education institutes expanding research networks in Southeast Asia, where shared focus on engineering and technology innovation is seen as critical for addressing regional challenges.
