Kolkata: IIT Kharagpur has signed an MoU with New Jersey-based Santech Global to support innovation in semiconductor and quantum technologies and advance supply chain resilience in the Indo-Pacific.
The plans include chip design, fabrication, packaging and testing facilities, AI-driven R&D centres and a semiconductor design facility in Kolkata that will be ready by 2028.
A centre of excellence will come up for which 15 acres of land have already been earmarked.
As part of the MoU, joint PhD and MS programs will also be launched. Another AI-based semiconductor and emerging nanotechnology research centre will also be established in Kolkata.
This partnership is part of the Indo-US Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology (TRUST) initiative.
