New Delhi: In a major step toward improving user experience, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched a new feature called ‘Passbook Lite’ on its Member Portal.Â
The feature offers a quick, summarized view of Provident Fund (PF) contributions, withdrawals, and balances without requiring members to log in separately to the traditional Passbook Portal.
Until now, members had to access a separate portal to check their PF statements and transaction history. With Passbook Lite, the process is now integrated, lighter, and more user-friendly.
Key Features of Passbook Lite
Passbook Lite provides an easy-to-read summary of a member’s PF account. This includes:
- Monthly contributions
- Total balance
- Withdrawals and advances taken
For those who still want detailed statements or graphical views, the existing Passbook Portal will remain active. The lighter version is expected to reduce the load on the main Passbook Portal, ensuring faster access and better system uptime.
Integration Through Existing APIs
The feature has been built using existing APIs, which minimizes redundancy across platforms and simplifies the overall digital architecture. By merging services into the Member Portal, EPFO is aiming for greater efficiency in managing traffic and improving reliability.
Linked to Wider Digital Reforms
The launch of Passbook Lite is part of EPFO’s larger digital reform plan. The organization is also working to speed up claim settlements and reduce delays caused by multi-layered approval systems. Currently, many PF-related services, such as transfers, advances, and refunds, require clearance from higher-level officers like Regional Provident Fund Commissioners (RPFCs). This often results in longer turnaround times.
The reforms seek to simplify these processes, cut down unnecessary approval layers, and allow quicker processing of claims.
By streamlining these services, EPFO aims to improve accountability at the field office level, reduce grievances, and increase transparency.
