Kolkata: The West Bengal Transport Department has decided to introduce a series of online or faceless services, whereby vehicle owners will no longer have to queue up at the public vehicles department office physically.
These services include obtaining duplicate driving licenses, renewing licenses, issuing an international driving permit or updating the addresses on the cards.
The transport department has been receiving complaints from motorists that replacing a driving license or changing the photo and signature on the licenses are posing as challenges in the department.
The department recently had a meeting with NIC to offer this range of services online.
Thr stated objective was to alleviate the trouble of visiting the offices physically and dealing with the menace of touts or illegal intermediaries.
The back-end work has been completed and the 50-odd services will.be available online within a fortnight.
