New Delhi:Â Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the government is going to set up 187 Arogya Mandirs in addition to the 168 currently operational across the city.
These additional centres are expected to become functional by December this year.
Gupta said these health centres were being set up under the Ayushman Bharat programme, which aims to upgrade sub-health centres, primary health centres, and urban primary health centres into comprehensive healthcare facilities.
Gupta also mentioned that the Delhi government would stop operating its health centres from rented premises, as sufficient government-owned spaces were now available. She highlighted that the purpose of these centres is not only to treat common ailments and ensure necessary referrals but also to deliver standardised, respectful, and high-quality healthcare tailored to community needs.
Highlighting the difference from the earlier Mohalla Clinics, the Chief Minister noted that those facilities offered limited services due to deteriorating infrastructure. The new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, she said, are equipped with modern infrastructure to provide a much wider range of healthcare services.
These centres will offer outpatient services, diagnostic tests through empanelled labs, free medicines, maternal and child healthcare, family planning, and reproductive health services. They will also handle communicable and non-communicable disease management, eye and ENT care, dental treatment, elderly care, mental health screening, and basic emergency services.
Gupta emphasised that the government’s objective was not only to improve healthcare delivery but also to strengthen public trust in the health system.
