New Delhi: The Central government has appointed Raj Kumar Goyal as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the Central Information Commission, according to an official notification issued on 15 December.
The appointment has been made in accordance with the recommendations of a selection committee constituted under the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
A 1990-batch retired Indian Administrative Service, Goyal will assume charge as the Chief Information Commissioner with effect from the forenoon of 15 December.
As per the notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the terms and conditions of Goyal’s appointment will be governed by the relevant provisions of the RTI Act, 2005, along with the applicable rules relating to salary, allowances, and service conditions.
The Central Information Commission is the apex body responsible for adjudicating appeals and complaints related to the implementation of the RTI Act at the central level.
