New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed Ravi Ranjan as Managing Director of the State Bank of India.
The appointment was announced through an official notification issued by the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.
The appointment has been made under the provisions of the State Bank of India Act, 1955. Ranjan will remain in office until he reaches the age of superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
Before his elevation, Ravi Ranjan was serving as Deputy Managing Director at SBI. After assuming charge as Managing Director, he will oversee key verticals including Risk, Compliance, and the Stressed Assets Resolution Group. These areas play a critical role in maintaining the bank’s financial stability and regulatory compliance.
Ranjan is a seasoned banker with more than 34 years of experience in the banking sector. He joined State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer in 1991 and has since held several important leadership roles across the bank’s domestic and international operations.
His previous assignments include Deputy Managing Director for Global Markets and the Corporate Accounts Group. He has also served as Chief General Manager of the Chennai Circle covering Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Other roles include President and Chief Operating Officer of SBICAPS in Mumbai and General Manager of the Retail Network in Bengaluru.
In addition to his domestic experience, Ranjan has had foreign postings in Hong Kong and Los Angeles. During these assignments, he gained exposure to debt syndication and international banking operations.
