New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved two key bureaucratic decisions involving senior IAS officers. Senior IAS P Bala Kiran, a 2008 batch officer of the Kerala cadre, has been granted an extension of his central deputation by two years.
He is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training, a position he has held since October 2024. His original tenure was scheduled to end on February 28, 2026. With the extension, his deputation will now continue beyond that date or until further orders, whichever is earlier. This will take his total central deputation period to seven years.
Prior to his current role, P Bala Kiran served as Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration in Andhra Pradesh from February 28, 2021.
In a separate order, senior IAS Niraj Verma, a 1994 batch officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been assigned additional charge as Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. He continues to serve as secretary in the Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice. The additional responsibility has been assigned for a short period from January 3 to January 29, 2026. The arrangement has been made as the regular incumbent, IAS Nikunja Bihari Dhal, is on leave during this period.
