Kolkata: Calcutta University will henceforth admit students of its affiliated colleges to its postgraduate departments based on an admission test.
This will end the practice of mark-based entry that the University has followed to date.
Most of the PG departments now want to screen students seeking admission to their two-year PG programs through tests.
Currently, 80 per cent of the PG seats are reserved for students pursuing undergraduate programs at colleges affiliated to CU.
These students are admitted based on their marks. Graduate students from other universities take admission tests for the remaining 20 per cent of the seats.
Most departments will now screen all students, both from CU-affiliated colleges and other universities, through admission tests.
However, as per CU, students graduating with research will not be required to write any admission tests while getting into the one-year PG program.
