New Delhi: India and Germany have formalised a major step to deepen cooperation in the postal, express and logistics sector with the signing of two agreements in Ahmedabad on 12 January, during the visit of German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz to India.
The agreements include a Joint Declaration of Intent between India’s Department of Posts and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, as well as a Letter of Intent between the Department of Posts and Deutsche Post AG, Germany’s designated postal operator.
The documents were signed by senior officials from both sides, including Secretary (Posts) Vandita Kaul and Deutsche Post AG CEO Tobias Meyer.
The partnership aims to strengthen collaboration in cross-border e-commerce and expedited international deliveries, while exploring joint product development, enhanced network connectivity and closer coordination at the last mile.
It also provides for sharing best practices in digital transformation, operational efficiency and sustainable logistics.
A key outcome of the collaboration will be the introduction of premium international express services, combining India Post’s nationwide reach with the global logistics capabilities of the Deutsche Post–DHL Group.
The initiative is expected to improve delivery timelines, reliability and shipment tracking for exports from India.
Aligned with India’s export-led growth strategy, the collaboration is expected to support MSMEs, startups and small producers by offering more competitive and reliable international logistics solutions.
