New Delhi: BHIM Services Limited has launched a new biometric authentication feature on the BHIM Payments App to make digital payments faster and more convenient.
With this update, users can approve UPI transactions of up to Rs 5,000 using their smartphone’s fingerprint or facial recognition. This removes the need to enter a UPI PIN for smaller payments, simplifying the process for everyday transactions.
The feature is expected to reduce payment failures caused by forgotten or incorrectly entered PINs. Users can now complete transactions more smoothly while sending money to friends and family, scanning QR codes at shops, or making online payments.
Security is at the centre of this feature. Biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial recognition, is stored securely on the user’s device, lowering the risk of misuse or PIN sharing. This ensures that while convenience improves, safety is not compromised.
For transactions above Rs 5,000, users will still need to enter their UPI PIN. This added step provides an extra layer of protection for higher-value payments.
The biometric authentication feature is currently available on both Android and iOS devices that support fingerprint or facial recognition technology.
This move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and strengthen the security of digital payments in India.
