Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and the Bharat Chamber of Commerce are partnering to train basic hygiene to the street food vendors of Kolkata.
The workshop will.begim post elections from Tiretti Market, famous for Chinese eateries.
This will be followed by Dacres Lane, Dalhousie, Zakaria Street, College Street, Chowringhee, the Park Street – Camac Street belt, Rabindra Sadan and Sector V, among others.
The training will continue for 6 months and will be carefully crafted to suit the needs of food hawkers.
All street food stalls near hospitals, schools, colleges and officed will also be brought under this training program in phases.
Surveys have found that Kolkata street food has nutritional value, but the food stalls lack basic hygiene.
KMC may pick up the trained food hawkers to subsequently run special food hubs.
