Guwahati: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Coventry University Group, UK, to strengthen global research and innovation in artificial intelligence and healthcare.
According to a statement released by the institute, the agreement aims to establish a strategic partnership focused on expanding research collaboration, promoting academic mobility, and enabling joint degree programmes. The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening academic engagement between India and the United Kingdom, particularly in the field of technology-driven healthcare.
The MoU was formalised during a recent visit by Coventry University Group’s senior research leadership to IIT Guwahati. The delegation was led by Prof. Richard Dashwood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Coventry University Group.
Under the partnership, both institutions will collaborate across several key areas. These include academic and research mobility through short-term exchange programmes for faculty members and students. The agreement also proposes the introduction of joint doctoral programmes, including a dual-award PhD framework under joint supervision by researchers from both institutions.
Another major focus area of the collaboration is AI for One Health, which aligns with India’s national efforts to promote artificial intelligence in healthcare and related sectors.
Officials said the partnership will create new opportunities for collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and capacity building in emerging technologies and healthcare innovation.
