Ahmedabad: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched the sixth edition of the Digital Payment Awareness Week (DPAW) in Ahmedabad.
It was organised with a women-centric outreach programme aimed at promoting safe digital transactions and raising awareness about online fraud.
The week-long campaign, being observed across India till 15th March under the national initiative “Har Payment Digital,” is led by RBI’s Department of Payment and Settlement Systems at its Central Office in Mumbai. The programme focuses on educating users about responsible digital payment practices as the use of online transactions continues to grow.
The Ahmedabad event was held at the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank in the Naranpura area and saw participation from around 400 attendees, including members of Self Help Groups (SHGs), trainees from the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), and banking professionals.
The programme was inaugurated by Amresh Ranjan, Regional Director of RBI for Gujarat. Other dignitaries present included Kalpana More, RBI Ombudsman for Gujarat; Pramod Kumar Sharma, Chief General Manager at Bank of Baroda; and Pradeep M. Vora, Chief Executive Officer of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank.
Addressing the gathering, Ranjan highlighted the theme of this year’s campaign, “Thoda Dhyaan Se” (a little caution), stressing the importance of basic safety practices while using digital payment platforms. He advised users never to share one-time passwords (OTP), personal identification numbers (PIN), or passwords with anyone.
He also cautioned people against scanning QR codes or entering a PIN to receive payments, noting that such actions are common tactics used in online fraud.
