New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple redevelopment projects under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan worth around Rs. 15,200 crore in New Delhi.
The projects are part of the government’s broader initiative to modernize infrastructure in the national capital and improve living conditions for government employees.
Redevelopment Across Key Locations
The redevelopment work is being carried out across several prominent locations in the capital, including Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri.
These projects are part of an ambitious programme aimed at transforming existing GPRA colonies into modern residential complexes with improved infrastructure and integrated administrative facilities.
Self-Sustainable Financial Model
According to the government, the redevelopment is being implemented through an innovative self-sustainable financial model designed to avoid any burden on the public exchequer.
Under this approach, a limited portion of the project area will be developed and monetised for commercial and residential purposes. The revenue generated through this process will be used to fund the construction of modern government housing, supporting infrastructure, and public facilities.
Modern Housing and Office Space
The redevelopment plan will deliver more than 9,350 modern flats for government employees. In addition, around 48 lakh square feet of office space will be created as part of the project.
Officials said the initiative will not only provide improved residential facilities for government staff but also enhance administrative efficiency through the development of modern office infrastructure in the national capital.
