Kolkata: The Kolkata Police Cyber Cell has launched a special initiative on its social media pages, sharing videos of recent cybercrime victims.
These victims of various cyber fraudsters are recording videos detailing how they were tricked.
Specifically, victims involved in recent cases where a new modus operandi was used by the fraudsters were recorded.
The victims are also seen in the videos repeatedly asking others to report early to the police.
This should be done preferably within the golden hour so that recovery chances increase.
The police will not be taking direct questions as they expect hundreds to join the online program from the Kolkata Police Facebook page.
However, the public who listen to the discussion are encouraged to send their questions, which the police will subsequently answer.
The first video shared was of a former lady banker who was duped of Rs 24.4 lakh in the name of her own bank.
The victim reported the incident immediately to her local police station and the divisional cyber cell, leading to the recovery of Rs 21.4 lakhs.
The Kolkata Police currently registers 1000 cyber fraud cases monthly on average.
The city witnessed total fraud worth Rs 208 crore, with Rs 37 crore of it recovered.
The Kolkata Police cyber cell opened a new helpline number last month, which is available 24×7 to citizens.
