Noida, May 22 (APAC Media): Gold and silver prices declined marginally across major Indian cities on Friday, tracking weak global cues, a stronger US dollar and continued volatility in international bullion markets, according to retail trade data.
Prices of 24-karat gold and 22-karat gold moved lower in key domestic markets, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
The decline followed recent fluctuations in global spot prices, with traders seen booking profits after a phase of upward movement in precious metals.

|---|---|---|---|

| New Delhi | ₹159,490 | ₹146,199 | ₹274,100 |

| Chennai | ₹160,170 | ₹146,823 | ₹275,440 |
Market participants said sentiment in the bullion segment remained cautious as investors monitored macroeconomic indicators, including interest rate expectations from major central banks and movements in US Treasury yields. The strength of the dollar index also weighed on demand for safe-haven assets priced in the US currency.
Silver prices, particularly 999 purity silver, also softened in domestic trade. However, the downside remained relatively limited compared to gold, supported by steady industrial demand from sectors such as electronics, solar manufacturing and automotive applications.
Analysts noted that precious metals have been witnessing two-way movements in recent sessions, with global uncertainty providing intermittent support while profit-taking and currency fluctuations limiting upside momentum.
Traders added that domestic retail demand remained stable but not strong enough to offset global pressure. Seasonal demand trends and wedding-related buying continue to provide underlying support in the Indian market, though price sensitivity among consumers remains high at elevated levels.
Market observers expect bullion prices to remain range-bound in the near term, with volatility driven by incoming economic data, geopolitical developments and central bank policy signals.
Experts said long-term sentiment for gold and silver remains broadly positive due to their role as safe-haven assets and industrial metals, respectively, though short-term movements are likely to stay choppy.
