Noida, May 23 (APAC Media): State Bank of India (SBI) customers across the country may face disruptions in branch banking services between May 23 and May 28 due to a combination of weekend closures, a proposed employee strike, and Bakrid holidays in several states.
SBI branches remained closed on May 23 and 24 due to the fourth Saturday and Sunday, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar. Banking services were also expected to be impacted on May 25 and 26 following a two-day nationwide strike called by the All-India State Bank of India Staff Federation, which is protesting issues related to recruitment policies, outsourcing of jobs, and pension-related demands.

The employee union had earlier stated that the strike was aimed at pressing the management to address long-pending staff concerns and improve working conditions within the country’s largest public sector lender.
Further branch closures are likely on May 27 and 28 in several states due to Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) holidays. In some regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, banks are scheduled to remain shut for both days as per local holiday notifications.
“Despite the expected disruption in branch operations, its digital banking services would continue to function normally, and customers can continue using internet banking, mobile banking, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), cash deposit machines, and ATM services during the holiday period,” SBI said.
The bank has advised customers to complete important branch-related transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience during the extended closure period.
Meanwhile, reports later indicated that the proposed strike on May 25 and 26 had been deferred following discussions between union representatives and SBI management.
If the revised decision remains in effect, SBI branches are expected to function normally on those dates, reducing the impact on banking services for customers nationwide.
