New Delhi, June 29 (APAC Media): Rajasthan and Haryana have moved closer to implementing the long-pending Yamuna Water Project after senior officials of both states finalised the draft Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the inter-state initiative. The agreement is scheduled to be signed by the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Haryana on June 29.
Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas joined senior Haryana officials in New Delhi for the final round of discussions on the project.
During a drafting committee meeting held at Bikaner House, officials from both states approved the MoA, paving the way for the project’s implementation.
The proposed project aims to channel surplus monsoon water from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana to Rajasthan, benefiting the water-scarce districts of Churu, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu.
Under the agreement, Rajasthan will receive its allocated share of Yamuna water in accordance with the 1994 Upper Yamuna River Board Agreement.
The MoA also seeks to accelerate the implementation of the Renuka, Kishau, and Lakhwar dam projects, while strengthening inter-state coordination on water resource management.
Officials said the agreement is expected to improve long-term water security and provide a renewed framework for cooperative river basin management between the two states.
