New Delhi, June 8(CXO Media): Tata Motors will continue investing in both electric and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles as the company prepares for the next phase of India’s clean mobility transition.
In its FY26 annual report, Tata Motors Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the commercial vehicle sector will require a mix of electric, hydrogen and cleaner internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies rather than relying on a single solution. The company plans to expand its portfolio of zero-emission electric commercial vehicles while continuing to develop hydrogen-based technologies for heavy-duty transport segments.
Focus On Future Mobility Technologies
Chandrasekaran said advances in artificial intelligence, connected vehicle platforms, data-driven fleet services and advanced driver assistance systems are reshaping the commercial mobility market. He added that changing global supply chains, stricter safety expectations and the shift toward clean energy are influencing competitiveness across the automotive sector.
Strong Financial Performance
The comments come as Tata Motors reported its highest-ever annual revenue of Rs 83,855 crore in FY26, up 9.8% from Rs 76,359 crore a year earlier. The company also reported a return on capital employed of 72.3% in its automotive business, reflecting strong profitability in its commercial vehicle operations.
Tata Motors said it will maintain disciplined investments in emerging mobility technologies as demand grows for cleaner, connected and more efficient transport solutions in India and global markets.
