Gandhinagar, July 3 (APAC Media): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday launched the statewide Namo Swachhta Abhiyan and Amrutpan Abhiyan, calling on citizens to make cleanliness a shared responsibility and a way of life.
He said cleanliness should not be limited to a week-long campaign but should become a lifelong habit to improve public health and overall well-being.
Addressing the launch event, the Chief Minister said good health is the greatest wealth and urged people to adopt “Prevention is Better Than Cure” as a guiding principle in their daily lives.
He said cleanliness and good health go hand in hand and appealed to citizens not to litter and to actively help keep public places clean.
Focus on Clean Healthcare Facilities
As part of the initiative, Gujarat has launched a seven-day statewide cleanliness drive from July 1 to July 7 across all government healthcare institutions.
The campaign will include:
- Removal of old furniture and obsolete medical equipment
- Systematic disposal of unused records
- Cleaning and reorganisation of hospital premises
The drive aims to create cleaner, safer, and more hygienic healthcare facilities across the state.
Amrutpan Abhiyan for Mothers and Children
The Amrutpan Abhiyan focuses on improving nutrition and healthcare for mothers and children.
Its key priorities include:
- Ensuring proper nutrition for every newborn
- Creating awareness on maternal and child health
- Building a healthy foundation for future generations
The Chief Minister said healthy children are essential for building a developed and prosperous nation.
Health Minister Highlights Hospital Upgrades
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said cleanliness should become a permanent practice in hospitals rather than a temporary campaign.
Under the initiative:
- Broken furniture, outdated computers, and unused vehicles will be removed
- Condemned ambulances will be cleared from hospital premises
- Repairs to lighting, toilets, doors, and plumbing will be carried out on priority
He said the drive will improve patient facilities across Civil Hospitals, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Community Health Centres (CHCs) throughout Gujarat.
Statewide Coverage
The campaign will cover 11,935 government healthcare institutions, with cleaning activities extending from hospital premises to rooftops.
The initiative is being organised as part of the celebrations marking 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and aims to further strengthen hygiene standards across public healthcare facilities.
Officials said the campaign is guided by the motto:
“Clean Mind, Clean Body, Clean Healthcare Institution.”
