New Delhi, July 28(APAC Media): The next-generation Hyundai Creta is taking shape ahead of its expected India launch next year. Fresh spy shots and recent reports suggest Hyundai is working on a major update for its best-selling SUV, with a new platform, bigger cabin and a strong hybrid powertrain expected to be part of the package.
The update comes at a time when the mid-size SUV segment is becoming more competitive. New models such as the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton are expected to enter the market, while Kia is also preparing the next-generation Seltos.
Hyundai is expected to give the new Creta a completely different look. The SUV is likely to get a more upright design, a larger grille, new LED headlamps and a full-width LED light bar at the front. The rear is also expected to receive redesigned LED tail-lamps and a new tailgate design. Reports suggest the SUV will be slightly bigger than the current model, which could result in more legroom and boot space.
One of the biggest changes could come under the bonnet. Hyundai is reportedly planning to introduce a strong hybrid version of the Creta by pairing its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor. If launched, it will be Hyundai’s direct answer to hybrid SUVs like the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, where fuel efficiency has become a major selling point. The company is also expected to continue offering the 1.5-litre petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engine options.
The new Creta is expected to be built on Hyundai’s K3 platform, which is also likely to underpin the next-generation Kia Seltos. The new architecture is expected to improve ride quality, cabin space and safety.
Inside, Hyundai is likely to introduce a redesigned dashboard, larger digital screens and an updated connected car system. Reports also suggest the SUV could get a zero-gravity front passenger seat, a feature currently available on the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Hyundai has not officially confirmed the launch timeline or specifications. However, if the reports prove accurate, the next-generation Creta will be one of the biggest SUV launches in India next year as the company looks to strengthen its position in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment.
