Gandhinagar, July 10 (APAC Media): Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed the progress of major National Highway projects in Gujarat on Thursday.
He held a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and senior officials.
The review focused on ongoing highway projects, land acquisition, and ways to speed up road infrastructure across the state.
A key announcement from the meeting was the extension of the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway to Bhavnagar.
Gadkari said work on the project is expected to begin within the next three months.
Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway to Reach Bhavnagar
The proposed extension is expected to improve connectivity between Ahmedabad, Dholera and Bhavnagar, while strengthening transport links to key industrial and economic hubs in Gujarat.
Gadkari also asked the state government to submit proposals promptly under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) to secure funding for more highway projects.
Major Highway Projects Reviewed by Nitin Gadkari
Officials presented updates on several important road and expressway projects, including:
- Vadodara-Mumbai National Highway-48 six-laning
- Samakhiali-Maliya road project
- Rajkot-Gondal-Jetpur corridor
- Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway
- Ahmedabad-Godhra-Indore highway
- Jamnagar-Amritsar Expressway
- Palanpur-Samakhiali Corridor
- Ahmedabad-Shamlaji six-lane project
The projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time and strengthen logistics across Gujarat.
Gujarat’s Land Acquisition Model Praised
Gadkari praised Gujarat’s land acquisition process, particularly the practice of temporarily suspending non-agricultural permission procedures during the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage.
He said the model has helped speed up land acquisition and could serve as a best practice for other states executing large infrastructure projects.
CM Bhupendra Patel Seeks Faster Project Execution
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said better coordination among government departments has helped accelerate land acquisition and project implementation.
He also requested the Centre to expedite work on the Palanpur-Samakhiali Corridor, a key project for improving connectivity in the state.
Focus on Sustainable Infrastructure
During the meeting, Gadkari stressed the need for environmentally responsible highway development.
He suggested that trees affected by road expansion should be transplanted wherever possible to preserve green cover while carrying out infrastructure projects.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Gujarat government, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
