Raipur, July 11 (APAC Media): The Chhattisgarh government has introduced uniform age criteria for admissions to pre-primary classes and Class I across all government, government-aided and private schools, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under the revised guidelines, children must be at least six years old to be eligible for admission to Class I from the next academic session.
The School Education Department has designated April 1 as the cut-off date for determining the age eligibility of children seeking admission to Nursery, KG and Class I.
School Education Secretary Kamalpreet Singh has directed all district education officers to implement the new norms.
As per the revised admission criteria:
- Nursery (Balvatika-I): Above 3 years and below 4 years
- KG-I (Balvatika-II): Above 4 years and below 5 years
- KG-II (Balvatika-III): Above 5 years and below 6 years
- Class I: Above 6 years and below 7 years
To ease the transition for parents and students, the government has announced a one-time relaxation of up to three months. Children who attain the required age by July 1 will also be eligible for admission to the respective class.
The revised age criteria will apply uniformly to government, government-aided and private schools, including admissions under the 25 per cent Right to Education (RTE) quota in private institutions.
The move aims to strengthen foundational learning and literacy while bringing greater uniformity to the school admission process across the state.
