The company has introduced the Mac Mini with the M6 chip and refreshed the Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors. The updates focus mainly on processing performance, AI capabilities, memory options and connectivity, while the desktop designs remain largely unchanged.
Apple Mac Mini Gets M6 Chip
The new Mac Mini M6 uses a 2nm-based processor with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU and 16-core NPU. Apple says the new GPU can deliver up to twice the graphics performance and four times the AI performance of the previous M4 generation.
The base Mac Mini M6 comes with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB storage. Buyers can configure it with up to 32GB memory and 2TB storage.
Apple has also added an M5 Pro option for the Mac Mini. It features a 15-core CPU and 12-core GPU, with 24GB memory and 512GB storage as standard. The configuration can go up to 64GB memory and 8TB storage.
Mac Studio Gets M5 Max And M5 Ultra
The Mac Studio 2026 now uses Apple’s M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. The M5 Max is available with up to an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, while memory can be configured up to 128GB.
The higher-end M5 Ultra combines two chip dies using Apple’s UltraFusion architecture. It offers up to a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU, with memory options reaching 512GB and storage up to 16TB.
The updated Mac Studio also adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and six Thunderbolt 5 ports, positioning it as Apple’s higher-end desktop option for demanding professional workloads.
Mac Mini And Mac Studio Price
The Mac Mini M6 starts at $899, while the M5 Pro version starts at $1,699. The Mac Studio starts at $2,499 with M5 Max and $5,499 with M5 Ultra.
At the highest configuration, the Mac Studio can currently cost $18,299. Apple is also expected to make the 512GB memory option available later in October.
The latest update gives Apple’s desktop range newer silicon without a major design change, with the main differences coming from processing power, AI performance, memory capacity and connectivity.
