New Delhi, August 27(APAC Media): Apple will hold its next iPhone launch event on September 9. The event could bring more than a new iPhone lineup, with Apple’s first foldable phone now emerging as one of the biggest talking points.
The launch comes at an important moment for Apple. John Ternus will take over as CEO on September 1, replacing Tim Cook, who will become executive chairman. This makes the September event Ternus’s first major product launch as Apple’s chief executive.
The Foldable iPhone Question
Apple has stayed away from foldable smartphones while Samsung and other manufacturers have spent years building the category. That could change this year.
Reports suggest Apple is working on a premium foldable iPhone with a larger internal screen that could be close to the size of an iPad mini when opened. The device is expected to sit at the top end of Apple’s smartphone range.
A foldable iPhone would also give Apple another way to push its average selling prices higher at a time when smartphone demand is under pressure.
Samsung Could Face Its Biggest Rival Yet
Samsung currently leads the foldable smartphone market. Apple’s entry could change the competitive landscape, particularly in the premium segment.
IDC expects Apple to ship more than 17 million foldable iPhones by 2027. The wider foldable phone market is also expected to grow, even as the global smartphone market faces pressure from rising memory and storage costs.
For Apple, however, the September 9 event is about more than another iPhone upgrade. It will be the first major test of how Ternus presents the company’s next phase, and whether Apple is finally ready to make foldable phones mainstream.
