Ranchi, August 26 (APAC Media): The Jharkhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has approved 53 proposals covering healthcare, education, police infrastructure, rural development, tourism and other key sectors.
Among the major decisions are the expansion of MBBS and postgraduate medical seats, development of 100 new Chief Minister Schools of Excellence and installation of 9,006 CCTV cameras across 606 police stations.
Medical Education Infrastructure to Be Expanded
The Cabinet approved Rs 393.91 crore for MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, to increase MBBS seats, introduce new postgraduate subjects and expand PG seats during 2026-27 to 2029-30.
The Cabinet also approved reducing the retirement age of non-teaching doctors and specialists in the Jharkhand Health Service from 67 to 65 years.
100 New Schools of Excellence
Jharkhand will establish 100 additional government Schools of Excellence under the Adarsh Vidyalaya scheme.
The Cabinet approved Rs 721.43 crore for the initiative, which will add to the 80 Schools of Excellence already operating in the state.
Student Research and Innovation Policy
The government approved the Jharkhand Student Research and Innovation Policy 2026 under the Higher and Technical Education Department.
The policy aims to promote research, innovation and new ideas among students while strengthening the state’s academic and higher education ecosystem.
Roads, Tourism and Rural Infrastructure
Several infrastructure projects were also approved, including road widening and strengthening works in Giridih, Ramgarh, Manoharpur, Chatra and Chaibasa.
The Cabinet cleared a Rs 184.29-crore beautification project for Topchanchi Lake in Dhanbad under the PPP mode through the DBFOT model.
It also approved the Jharkhand Rural Bridge Maintenance Policy-2025, aimed at improving the maintenance and repair of bridges constructed under the Rural Works Department.
The Cabinet also approved changes to the state’s disaster framework.
Following the Centre’s inclusion of lightning and heatwave in the national disaster framework, both have been removed from Jharkhand’s specific local disaster list.
