BoB Launches UPI Global Reverse Acceptance for International Visitors

Mumbai, 26 August (APAC Media): Bank of Baroda has announced the launch of UPI Global Reverse Acceptance for international tourists, overseas Indians, and users of foreign wallet and payment applications.

This feature will enable users from eligible countries to make seamless QR-based payments at the bank’s UPI QR merchant outlets across India.

The initiative expands international QR payment acceptance across Bank of Baroda’s merchant network, allowing visitors to pay using their familiar home-country banking or payment applications.

Supporting Global Digital Payments

Aligned with NPCI International’s vision of creating a globally interoperable digital payments ecosystem, the initiative facilitates cross-border Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions in India.

Visitors from countries participating in NPCI International’s Global Payments ecosystem can use the service. Major international payment corridors include Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Bhutan, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, the US, Qatar, and France, among others.

Travellers can simply scan a Bank of Baroda UPI QR code through their home-country banking or payment application and complete the transaction digitally. The facility reduces the need to carry cash or exchange foreign currency, offering a faster and more convenient payment experience.

Boost for Merchants and Tourism

Sanjay Mudaliar, Executive Director, Bank of Baroda, highlighted the significance of the initiative, saying, “Bank of Baroda is proud to introduce UPI Global Reverse Acceptance, an important step towards making digital payments more accessible across borders. By enabling international visitors to make merchant payments through payment applications they already use and are familiar with, we are enhancing convenience for travelers while creating new business opportunities for our merchants.”

He added, “UPI Global Reverse Acceptance strengthens our merchant acquiring franchise and reflects Bank of Baroda’s commitment to innovation and building a globally interoperable digital payments ecosystem.”

The initiative also supports the Government of India’s Digital India vision by promoting innovative, convenient, and internationally interoperable digital payment solutions for visitors across the country.
