New Delhi, August 12(APAC Media): Meta has launched a new AI model called Muse Glimmer. The 30-billion-parameter model is designed to run AI tasks directly on laptops and PCs instead of depending fully on cloud servers. Meta said the model can work with a single consumer graphics card.
Muse Glimmer is designed to handle tasks on its own. It can plan a task, use approved tools, check the results and try again if something goes wrong.
Meta said the model can run within 24GB to 32GB of memory. It is aimed at systems such as Macs with M4 and M5 chips and PCs using Nvidia’s RTX 5090 graphics card.
The move highlights Meta’s push towards AI models that can run locally on consumer devices. Local AI can reduce the need to send every task to cloud-based systems and can give users more control over how their data is handled.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also called for fewer US restrictions on open AI models. In a 14-page essay, The Future is for Everyone, Zuckerberg argued that strict limits could give Chinese developers an advantage in the open-weight AI market. Meta said more open-weight models are expected to follow, making Muse Glimmer part of the company’s wider push into locally run AI.
