New Delhi, Sep 28(APAC Media): Akamai Technologies has signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion cloud infrastructure agreement with Anthropic to support the AI company’s growing CPU workload requirements.
The deal will use Akamai Cloud’s distributed infrastructure and software to support Anthropic’s workloads at scale. Akamai said the agreement could expand by another $9 billion during the seven-year term, taking the potential total commitment to about $20 billion.
Akamai Cloud And AI Infrastructure
The agreement comes as demand for computing infrastructure continues to rise with the expansion of AI applications. Akamai said the Anthropic deal adds to more than $2.8 billion in multi-year Cloud Infrastructure Services commitments announced across its customer base in 2026.
As part of the agreement, Akamai has issued Anthropic a warrant linked to up to about 5% of Akamai’s outstanding common stock. Around 2% is expected to vest with the initial $11.6 billion commitment, while the remaining portion will depend on further cloud service purchases.
Capital Spending
Akamai expects capital expenditure related to the agreement to reach about $5.5 billion. The company also expects to increase its 2026 capital expenditure by approximately $1.7 billion to secure critical supply chain components, including memory.
Akamai said the agreement is not expected to change its 2026 revenue guidance. The company will use its distributed cloud infrastructure to support Anthropic’s expanding computing requirements across its network.
