Gwalior, September 21 (APAC Media): Gwalior is set to emerge as a major telecom manufacturing hub with the proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) at SADA, involving an investment of around Rs 5,500 crore and expected to create more than 18,000 direct jobs, according to the Ministry of Communications.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently inspected the proposed site along with senior telecom officials. The zone is planned as a complete industrial ecosystem with 24-25 telecom manufacturing units producing equipment and components.
170 Acres Identified for First Phase
Around 170 acres has been identified for the first phase, including land in SADA and the IT Park. The ministry said investor interest has already exceeded the available land.
The Department of Telecommunications and Madhya Pradesh Government signed an MoU in July 2026. Investor roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai subsequently attracted commitments of around Rs 3,500 crore and Rs 2,000 crore, respectively. Twenty-four companies have initiated the application process.
Incentives, Testing Infrastructure to Support Industry
Madhya Pradesh has developed a dedicated incentive package covering land leases, power, employment and production, along with green development measures. DoT has also proposed a Rs 500 crore Common Testing Lab for the zone.
Scindia highlighted Gwalior’s road, rail and air connectivity, including the Agra-Gwalior High-Speed Corridor and the upgraded airport. The city’s engineering ecosystem, with around 25,000 engineering graduates annually, is expected to support the zone’s skilled workforce requirements.
