Noida: The 3rd APAC Global Educational and Skill Conclave featured a panel discussion on ‘Securing Experiential Learning: Role of Cyber Security in tomorrow’s hybrid learning’.
Some moot points discussed included cybersecurity framework academic institutions are adopting for tomorrow’s hybrid learning model, how higher educational institutions are getting more exposed to risks on data security and ow are institutions looking from a policy level to collaborate more with security solution providers to mitigate the cyber security threats?
This session was also moderated by Rajneesh De, Consulting Editor, APAC News Network. The panelists for this panel discussion included Dr. Sanjiv Marwah, Director, JK Business School; Dr. Abhay Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Pratap University; Dr. Vikas Singh, Vice-Chancellor, ITM University, Raipur; Dr. Vikas Misra, Director, Geetanjali Institute of Technical Studies; Dr. Indu Rao, Director – ASC, Vellore Institute of Technology; Devinder Narain, Director – Corporate Relations, Shobhit University; Adesh Kumar Pandey, KEIT Group of Institutions.

He also highlighted about the cybersecurity measures they have adopted.
“In today’s digital scenario cyber-crime is at its peak and therefore it makes a good sense for universities to come up with cybersecurity courses. There should be more such courses as it would be beneficial to have trained professionals in cyber security to combat cyber-crimes,” asserted Dr Singh.
Informed Dr Rao, Director, ASC, Vellore Institute of Technology, “We took a layered security approach. It is a holistic approach. Survival is an issue, for every stakeholder, including faculties and students, as well as e-learning materials. We have a software development cell and it trains the faculty to learn how cyber traffic works.”
“More higher education students would like to use mobile technologies more often than they do now. Two-thirds of remote learning students use mobile devices to complete coursework. Most higher education institutions can look at cloud options first when considering new investments,” informed Dr Misra.
“What are being stolen and targeted at universities? It can be either emails, PII on staff and students, technical resources, sensitive research and IP. So, what will it cost you, students and staff? There can be reputation loss, financial loss, identity theft, and research loss, etc,” opined Dr Kumar.
Said Devinder Narain, Director – Corporate Relations, Shobhit University, “An academic institution needs freedom and we need to share data with the institution, research purposes, government and so it is difficult for us to build a protected wall and as a result we become vulnerable. That is why hackers use this factor to weaken down our system and network.”
Informed Adesh Kumar Pandey, KEIT Group of Institutions, “Almost every day we were facing cyber security issues. We have 16 servers and our entire teaching process is done on LMS. Therefore, to avoid malpractices of the students we educated our faculty members.”
Valan Sivasubramanian, Manager – Systems Engineering, Fortinet mentioned, “The education industry has chosen Fortinet several times. There are over 500 educational institutes and 340K customers globally. Some customers are University of Cambridge, University of Georgia, Oregon Tech, Arizona State University, University of Oxford, etc. At Cambridge University, Fortinet has boosted Internet security for over 11,000 UG and 5,500 PG students across 31 autonomous colleges. It has also strengthened the University’s Internet security defenses. University of Oxford relies on Fortinet to protect its IT infrastructure. Fortinet is helping secure the digital world for students and staff.”
