Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has secured two research projects under the Ministry of Education’s Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), with a total sanctioned funding of over Rs 1.82 crore.
Each project will be implemented over two years and aims to strengthen international research collaboration and application-driven innovation.
One of the projects focuses on developing smart exoskeletons for healthcare applications, particularly for elderly and post-stroke patients in rural and clinical settings.
Led by faculty members from NIT Rourkela’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the project is being carried out in collaboration with the University of Nebraska at Omaha, US.
The research will explore affordable and scalable wearable robotic systems using sensors and artificial intelligence to assist mobility and rehabilitation.
The second project, undertaken with researchers from the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Canada, aims to develop smart and sustainable technologies for agri-food systems.
It will work on non-destructive methods to assess food quality and safety in real time. Together, the projects highlight NIT Rourkela’s growing global research engagement and focus on solutions with societal impact.
