New Delhi: IAS officer Amit Khare, adviser to the Prime Minister, has been granted an extension on his tenure by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet, under the regular terms and service of the position.
The 1985-batch IAS officer was appointed advisor to the PM on October 12, 2021 by the Committee. Scheduled to be completed in October 2023, Khare’s tenure has now been made coterminous with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Amit Khare is the man behind the National Education Policy 2020, that aims to provide high quality education to children irrespective of caste, creed, location or gender. He also brought significant changes with respect to the regulation of digital media in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Previously, Khare has also served as the Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University, as well as the Collector and Deputy Commissioner of 4 districts namely Darbhanga, Begusarai, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa), and Patna.
Khare is credited for uncovering the truth behind the ‘Fodder Scam’ of Bihar in 1996 when he was posted there as the Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum (Chaibasa). His ‘Anti-Superstition Campaign’ in the district, to protect women from harassment stemming from superstitions, successfully led to Bihar Government passing a legislation.
