New Delhi: IAS officer Sanket S Bhondve, currently working as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has been appointed Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the ministry on September 20.
His primary responsibility will be setting up the Data Protection Board (DPB) under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.
According to MeitY’s office order, Bhondve, who has been working as the joint secretary in the DigiGov wing of MeitY, will now be working with Cyber Laws and Data Governance Division of the ministry and provide aid in setting up the DPB.
Prior to his promotion to MeitY in July 2023, Bhondve was posted as the Private Secretary to the Minister of Road Transport and Highway.
The Data Protection Board will be in charge of making sure that the DPDP Act is followed. It will also take action if companies don’t follow the rules or in case of a data breach. The central government will be responsible for appointing the chairperson and members of the DPB.
