New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Whatsapp Channels, on Tuesday, as a measure to enhance his outreach through the popular social media app. “Thrilled to join the WhatsApp community! It is yet another step closer in our journey of continued interactions,” he said.
Meta’s new feature allows the channel’s admin to send updates to their followers via text, videos, photos, stickers and polls.
What is a WhatsApp channel?
A one-way broadcasting tool, WhatsApp Channels allows admins to share content with their followers. Users can remain informed and engaged with individuals and organisations that they choose to follow on the app through their account.
Users can access WhatsApp Channels through its dedicated tab named “Updates,” which is different from regular chats with communities, family and friends. This feature on WhatsApp is available for everyone via the new update, which was launched on September 13.
Joining PM Modi’s WhatsApp Channel
Here is how anyone can join PM Modi’s WhatsApp Channel:
- Launch WhatsApp on any device and navigate to the Updates tab.
- Find the “Find Channels” option at the bottom of the screen and tap on it.
- A list of all the channels available will be visible. To join any Channel, tap the plus icon next to the channel name. Or, one can use the search icon on the upper-right corner of the screen to manually search for the channel.
Users can react on these channels with emojis to give feedback on updates and view the number of reactions to it, but they cannot see how another user has reacted.
WhatsApp channels allows admin to make changes to their updates for a span of 30 days after which the platform removes older updates automatically from its servers.
Additionally, when an update is forwarded to another chat or group, WhatsApp Messenger includes a link that will direct users to the original channel for those who wish to know more about the channel’s content.
