New Delhi: In an attempt to make the document submission of overage vehicles more transparent, the Delhi government is planning to make the process faceless, officials announced on Tuesday.
“We have plans to launch a portal and make the service completely faceless to ensure transparency. We are trying to ensure that the documents that have to be uploaded and the undertaking that they will have to submit, (the process) will be online,” the official was quoted saying.
According to another official, the Transport Department is almost ready to submit the file of fine points of the initiative to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. The city government was asked by the Delhi High Court to frame a policy for the sole purpose of dealing with overage vehicles when their owners are willing to assure these vehicles will not be used.
The Supreme Court, in 2018, banned diesel and petrol cars that are older than 10 and 15 years respectively, with the prospect of impounding of said vehicles for those who violate the order. Last year, this ban resulted in five million cars being deregistered between January and October. In 2014, the National Green Tribunal barred the parking of vehicles that are older than 15 years in public spaces.
