New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on Wednesday, announced the appointment of Maneesh Kapur as its new Executive Director (ED). Effective from October 3, he will be overseeing the Department of Economic and Policy Research.
Prior to his appointment, Kapur was posted as the Adviser-in-Charge of the Monetary Policy Department as well as the Secretary to the Monetary Policy Committee, RBI informed via a statement.
He has also served as the Advisor to the Executive Director, International Monetary Fund (IMF) between the years 2012 to 2015. According to the statement, Kapur has a Master’s degree in Economics and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).
“Over a span of nearly three decades in the Reserve Bank, Kapur has worked in the areas of macroeconomic policy and research and monetary policy in the Department of Economic Policy and Research and Monetary Policy Department in RBI,” the RBI statement read.
The Department of Economic and Policy Research in the RBI is responsible for publishing its statutory reports, the Annual Report and the Report on Trend and Progress of Banking in India. The department serves as a key provider of primary statistics related to monetary aggregates, balance of payments, external debt, flow of funds, financial savings, and state finances. Over time, it has played a vital role in distributing extensive historical data on various macroeconomic indicators through both print and electronic media.
