New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that 56 Rajya Sabha seats from 15 states are scheduled for polls on February 27, between 9 am to 4 pm.
April 2 will see the conclusion of the term of office for 50 Rajya Sabha members from 13 states, with the remaining six members from two states retiring on April 3. The last date of making nominations is February 15, and withdrawal of candidatures has to be done before February 20.
States participating in the Rajya Sabha polls include Uttar Pradesh (10), Maharashtra (6), Bihar (6), West Bengal (5), Madhya Pradesh (5), Gujarat (4), Karnataka (4), Andhra Pradesh (3), Telangana (3), Rajasthan (3), Odisha (3), Uttarakhand (1), Chhattisgarh (1), Haryana (1), and Himachal Pradesh (1).
Rajya Sabha members serve a six-year term, with one-third of the members retiring every two years to ensure continuity. The voting process involves elected members of State Legislative Assemblies indirectly electing members of the Rajya Sabha.
