New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently named R. Lakshmi Kanth Rao as its new Executive Director (ED), effective from May 10, 2024. Before this promotion, Rao was serving as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Regulation, in RBI.
Rao has over three decades of experience in different roles within the RBI, including Regulation of Banks and NBFCs, Supervision of Banks, and Consumer Protection. He previously served as the Banking Ombudsman at RBI Chennai and as the Regional Director of Uttar Pradesh at Lucknow. Additionally, he has contributed to policy formulation as a member of several Committees and Working Groups.
As the Executive Director, Rao will be responsible for the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation, the Right to Information Act (RTI), and the Department of Communication.
Rao has a graduate degree in commerce, a master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, and a Diploma in Treasury Investment & Risk Management (TIRM) from the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF). Rao is also a Certified Associate of IIBF.
