New Delhi: Bharat Lal, a retired senior officer of the Indian Forest Services (IFS), has been granted an additional year as the secretary-general of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)-India.
The Cabinet’s Appointments Committee announced an extension of tenure that will last for one year after June 30, 2024, or until further directives. Mr. Lal, a Gujarat cadre officer from the 1988 batch, has been employed on a contract basis by the Government of India since 2023 to serve at the NHRC as a secretary with pay and rank.
The order said that Lal’s term as secretary general of the NHRC has been extended “in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India on contract basis for a period of one year after 30.06.2024 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet”
