Hyderabad: State-owned miner NMDC is set to double its annual iron ore production to 100 million tonnes by 2030, up from 45 million tonnes in 2023-24. The expansion aims to meet growing demand and improve infrastructure. As part of its strategic investment plan, NMDC is advancing projects like slurry pipelines and beneficiation plants, focusing on eco-friendly and efficient transportation and processing methods.
One key initiative is the 135-kilometer slurry pipeline from Bacheli to Nagarnar, which will reduce reliance on carbon-intensive transport. NMDC is also enhancing rail networks and developing additional processing plants to handle the expected production increase.
The company is working on digital transformation to improve operational efficiency, including real-time production monitoring and advanced ERP systems. NMDC’s focus on sustainability includes the responsible development of low-grade ore and afforestation efforts, aligning with India’s national goals for the mining and steel sectors. Additionally, the company is exploring overseas mining opportunities for critical minerals like lithium and cobalt.
