The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), in partnership with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), has launched the AMRIT Team Grants program to support collaborative and innovative biotechnology research. This initiative aims to address pressing national priorities by fostering interdisciplinary research involving academia and startups.
The AMRIT Team Grants are designed to fund projects that exceed the scope of single-laboratory efforts. By supporting collaborative science, the initiative seeks to blend high-quality research with societal needs, promoting synergies across organizations and encouraging multiorganizational partnerships.
Thematic Areas for Proposals
The grant program is open to a wide range of biotechnology fields, and proposals are invited in key thematic areas, including:
- Bio-manufacturing: Projects in bio-based chemicals, APIs, marine and space research, climate-resilient agriculture, precision biotherapeutics, smart proteins, and carbon capture utilization.
- Health, Wellness, and Medical Interventions: Research focused on cancer, chronic diseases, human genetics, infectious diseases, neurological disorders, maternal and child health, and nutrition.
- Bio-Wealth: Initiatives in plant biotechnology, agriculture, animal biotechnology, and bio-resources.
Application Process
Researchers can apply through two portals, based on the nature of their collaboration:
- Academia-Academia collaborations: Submit via the DBT e-PROMIS portal http://dbtepromis.nic.in.
- Academia-Startup collaborations: Submit via the BIRAC portal https://birac.nic.in.
Applications must be submitted by the Coordinating Principal Investigator (PI) with approvals from all participating organizations. The deadline for submission is 20 November 2024, 23:59 hrs. Late submissions or applications via other methods will not be accepted.
