New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a mobile app under the Civil Registration System (CRS) aimed at making birth and death registrations easier for citizens. Part of the recent Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023, the app allows people to register from anywhere in their state’s language, aiming to cut down the hassle and wait times involved.
From October 1, 2023, all reported births and deaths must be digitally registered on the government portal dc.crsorgi.gov.in. The new system provides a single digital certificate that can be used for purposes like school admissions, government jobs, and even marriage registration. The centralized registry will also support updates to the National Population Register (NPR), electoral rolls, and ration cards.
In addition, Amit Shah unveiled a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Census Building in New Delhi, recognizing Patel’s role in uniting India and promoting democratic values.
