New Delhi: To realize the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’, the Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, will set up three AI Centres of Excellence (CoE) in the fields of Healthcare, Agriculture, and Sustainable Cities. This initiative aims to create an effective AI ecosystem and nurture quality human resources in these critical fields.
The three AI CoEs will be led by top educational institutions, in collaboration with industry partners and startups. They will together conduct interdisciplinary research, develop advanced applications, and develop scalable solutions in the three fields. To foster the idea of ‘Make AI in India and Make AI work for India’, the establishment of the centres was earlier announced under the 2023-24 budget with a total financial outlay of Rs. 990 Crore till FY 2027-28.
The government has formed an apex committee to supervise the implementation of this initiative which will be led by Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zoho Corporation.
