Pune: Zscaler ThreatLabz, a leading company in cloud security, has revealed in its annual Zscaler ThreatLabz 2024 Ransomware Report that India has ranked second when it came to the volume of successfully launched ransomware attacks launched in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
According to Zscaler, India’s rapid digital transformation and widespread AI and machine learning adoption have put the country as a prime target for sophisticated cyber threats. The company observed nearly 1.3 billion (135%) more AI transactions in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) than in Europe the Middle East and Africa. (EMEA). This is largely driven by the high volume of transactions coming from India.
As per the findings, the manufacturing sector remains the most targeted in India, accounting for 28.89% of attacks, while other industries such as healthcare (8.89%), technology (6.67%), pharmaceutical (6.67%), and financial services (8.89%) also faced significant risks. In order to safeguard the Indian digital infrastructure against the increasing risks of cyber threats, Suvabrata Sinha, CISO in residence, India, suggests that the country should adopt ‘zero trust security frameworks’ to mitigate risks, protect sensitive data, and ensure business continuity.
