New Delhi: Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has extended Unsoo Kim’s tenure as Managing Director for three more years, starting January 25, 2025. The decision reflects the company’s continued trust in his leadership amid a challenging and competitive automotive market in India.
Kim, who joined HMIL in 2022, brings over 30 years of experience at Hyundai Motor Company, where he has managed roles in global business planning, strategy, and operations. Prior to taking charge in India, Kim served as Executive Vice President of Global Operations at Hyundai Motor Company, overseeing diverse markets worldwide.
During his time at Hyundai Motor India, Kim has overseen key operational initiatives, including product portfolio expansion and supply chain efficiency, which helped strengthen the company’s foothold in India’s automotive sector. Under his leadership, HMIL has navigated market fluctuations and maintained a competitive position amid growing domestic and global competition in the electric vehicle and compact car segments.
Kim’s reappointment comes as Hyundai Motor India focuses on scaling its EV offerings and deepening its presence in India, which is one of its largest markets globally. The company recently announced plans to expand production capacity and invest in advanced technologies to meet changing consumer preferences and stricter environmental regulations.
Industry observers suggest that Kim’s second term will likely center on addressing challenges posed by India’s evolving automotive policies, increasing localization of production, and enhancing exports.
