New Delhi: Â Hexagon, a leading digital reality solutions company, has announced a collaboration with the Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining Foundation (TEXMiN) of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to revolutionize the mining industry by integrating advanced digital technologies and promoting sustainable practices. The collaboration was inaugurated with the launch of a Center of Excellence (CoE) at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The CoE, a hub for innovation, was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan Dr. V K Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog.
Broadly, the initiative aims to utilize technological advancements for:
Advance Research and Innovation: To position India as a leader in mining technology by promoting innovation in the industry.
Develop Sustainable Processes: To focus on environmentally responsible and resource-efficient practices in mining.
Foster Industry Growth: To create new opportunities for technological advancement related to process automation, cost optimization, governance frameworks, and the adoption of new technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency in the mining sector.
Under the partnership, Hexagon’s advanced technological capabilities will be combined with TEXMiN’s deep knowledge of mining, exploration, and allied technologies. Together, the organizations aim to address technology challenges, align business objectives, and enhance national capabilities. The collaboration is also expected to enhance international relationships, by promoting partnerships with strategic allies, industry leaders, academic institutions, government agencies, and startups.
The collaboration includes the establishment of robust research and development facilities to support students, researchers, and professionals. These facilities will enable the exploration of next-generation technologies, including AI, IoT, geospatial analytics, and mine monitoring systems. By integrating technologies such as AI, IoT, and big data analytics, the partnership seeks to improve operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability across the mining value chain.
Pramod Kaushik, President of Hexagon India, stated that the partnership with TEXMiN, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, represents a significant step forward in transforming the mining sector by leveraging advanced digital technologies. Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Project Director of TEXMiN and Deputy Director at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, remarked that industry transformation leveraging cyber-physical systems is increasingly dependent on integrating advanced technologies like AI, IoT, and big data analytics. He explained that the TEXMiN-HxGN CoE initiative aims to lay the foundation for Mining 4.0 by bringing advanced technology and computational power to the mining sector. Kumar expressed optimism that this collaboration could revolutionize the industry by driving efficiency, safety, and sustainability in unprecedented ways.
